Summerland, in keeping with its tradition of maintaining a sense of culture and community, has its own Town Crier, who totes his bell and cries the traditional “Oyez” welcome at festivals and events. Summerland was once home to the playwright, George Ryga. The George Ryga Centre, a lovely historical building, now hosts artist retreats, workshops and performances.
